Connect

Connect with each other personally and do life together through a diverse range of small groups.

Connect Groups

During the week, CONNECT groups are the best place to make new friends & grow in faith as we do life together. Our CONNECT groups gather at various locations and times around Ashburton.

ABCkids

Encounter Jesus through Faith, Friends and Fun!

At ABCkids, we offer programs for kids aged 1-12 years old. We have several age groups that meet and our heart is that they encounter Jesus through Faith, Friends and Fun. ABCKids start off in the main service with their families and then go out during the worship time and meet in the foyer. The groups are run by dedicated parent volunteers and helpers.  Once a term, ABCkids run the Family Service on a Sunday which is always a great time and an exciting opportunity for the kids to be involved in the life of the Church.

During the school holidays, our children stay with us in the main service and activity packs are made available for them.

Impact Youth

Impact youth is a fantastic Christian group for young people between year 7-13 (Intermediate & College-aged kids). Here teens find a place to belong, friends to meet and explore who God is for themselves, finding their value and identity in Christ. We discuss life issues that teens face and offer support and prayer where needed. We believe that God can and will make an impact in this world through them.

We organise some superb events including guys and girls camps, games nights, bonfires, mission trips to Fiji and our highlight every year is attending Easter Camp.

Young Adults

Our Young Adults Connect Group happens periodically and gives an opportunity for 18-30 year olds to connect. Fun get togethers in homes, out on the town and at our home base over food, coffees, movies, Bible study and prayer keep us Encountering God, Connecting with each other and being Equipped.

Seniors

We have quite a few senior members who have been with the Church for many years, and for some, all their lives. There is a monthly service, usually held mid-week and followed by a fellowship lunch. This is a special time where our members can get together, sing some of the hymns they grew up with and meet up with their friends outside of the normal Sunday service.

We also have a dedicated team who love visiting our senior members in retirement homes, in hospital and those that live alone at home.

“This is the most rewarding ministry as we are able to pray for individuals while there and see the joy on their faces as they join in with singing some of their favourite hymns”. Jo Annear

Newcomers

Our Newcomers Connect Group short course is for those who are new to our Church family or new believers. It’s an (eight week) course led by mature, caring leaders who take you through our Vision and Values, Mission Statement and Beliefs so that you can become familiar with our family. Following the course, leaders will work out how to “plant you out” into one of our other Connect Groups so that you can continue to Encounter God, Connect with others and get Equipped.

Newcomers can slot in anytime during weeks 1-8.

Worship Team

Worship is our authentic expression of reverence and adoration to glorify God. Through worship we are ushered into His presence to encounter God through His Holy Spirit and to deepen our relationship with Him. At Ashburton Baptist Church, we have an intergenerational team of worshippers who are dedicated to seeing Jesus lifted high, serving our Church family with their giftings and demonstrating a love for God and each-other.

Our worship team meets to practice before the service, have worship evenings and jam sessions once a month.

If you are a worshipper and want to join our team, connect with us here and the worship leader will connect with you

Pastoral Care

We offer prayer and practical support for members of our Church who are in need. Our Pastoral Care team are members of our Church who offer practical help to members of our Community.  The team provides support and care in the form of visits and meals to transport and lawn mowing for those who may not be mobile or in residential care. We offer care for people who have lost loved ones or have welcomed a new baby. If this is you and you would like practical help at this time, then please contact us.

We have the facilities to freeze and store frozen meals at Church which are available to be used when needed.  If you would like to contribute a meal, then please kindly drop off at our Church office. They are greatly appreciated.
