Vision & Values

VISION DECLARATION

  • To provide the Ashburton community with a Christian church environment where  people can grow in their love for God and attain their potential as mature disciples for Jesus.
  • To promote relationships with others which draw them to Christ through actions and character.
  • To live out our faith by  promoting loving  relationships with others, seeking to be  filled, empowered and led by the Holy Spirit.
  • To equip our people by providing discipleship training through caring, small groups and bible centred courses. Inspiring Christ-centred worship and community outreach.
  • To encourage as an integral part of our church life, a reverence for biblical truth and a worshipful spirit.
  • To promote and encourage full participation in church prayer for our district and for our church leaders.

Beliefs

We believe in

  • One (and only one) living and true God.
  • He is an intelligent, spiritual, and personal Being, the Creator, Redeemer, Preserver, and Ruler of the universe.
  • God is infinite in holiness and all other perfections.
  • God is all-powerful and all-knowing; and His perfect knowledge extends to all things, past, present, and future.
  • To Him, we owe the highest love, reverence, and obedience.
  • The eternal triune God reveals Himself to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, with distinct personal attributes, but without division of nature, essence, or being.
  • Both the true humanity and deity of the Lord Jesus Christ.
  • The atonement made on the Cross by our Lord for the sin of the world (NB we reject the false doctrine of universalism).
  • The person of the Holy Spirit as the One who sets us apart empowers us and imparts spiritual gifts to the Church.
  • The inspiration of the Bible and it’s authority in all matters of faith and practice.
  • Salvation is by faith alone, in Jesus Christ alone.
  • Membership of the Church is for those who have received salvation.
  • That full immersion baptism is the Biblical model.

In addition to this, we also affirm the historic creeds such as the Apostle’s Creed and the Nicene Creed.
